Jack Leroy "Jackie" Wilson (June 9, 1934–January 21, 1984) was an American soul and R&B singer born in Detroit, Michigan, where he became active in the music business. He joined Billy Ward & the Dominoes in 1953, replacing Clyde McPhatter. Fallowing losing McPhatter, a class action's simply recording profits by owning Wilson come inside June of 1956 by using a single "St. Therese of The Roses" that reached total Xiii on the Pop stock and index charts.

Wilson's solo career commence by using 1957's "Reet Petite", written by the so unknown Berry Gordy, Jr. and recorded on the Brunswick Records label with whom Wilson would remain throughout his career. He got his 1st top 40 hit in 1958 with "To Be Loved". At a prevent of that month he got his number 1 large profits by using "Lonely Teardrops" that attend #7 on the stock and index charts. A song, besides written by Berry Gordy, Jr. became his theme song. That equivalent season saw Wilson release his number one LP titled "''He's So Fine''."

Wilson's br& of pop-soul and R&B helped him cross over to the mainstream, having several pop hits. His dynamic stage performances earned him a nickname "Mr. Excitement". His performance of "Lonely Teardrops" on the Ed Sullivan Show is considered one of its classics. In the 1960s, Wilson continued to record singles, many of the children operatic & overblown, like "Danny Boy" or "Night", others were higher-tempo & exciting, like "Baby Workout" inside 1963. Wilson was shot & maimed by the female fan inside 1961.

His career began to suffer in the mid-60s, though he managed the brief revival by collaborating by having Carl Davis, a legendary Chicago producer. This resulted around both hits, "Whispers" & "Higher and Higher". A revival was short-transitory, though, & Wilson seldom following in the 1970s. Wilson suffered the massive heart attack when swimming the Dick Clark show at the Latin Casino in New Jersey on September 29, 1975, falling head-first to the stage; he was singing "Lonely Teardrops". The comatose Wilson sleep within the hospital until his demise in 1984 at age 49. His medical costs were invite by Dick Clark.

Van Morrison recorded a tribute song known as "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)" in his 1972 hit album ''Saint Dominic's Preview''. This song was late covered by Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Wilson scored the posthumous hit while "Reet Petite" reached first in the United Kingdom in 1986. He was inducted into a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987; that same season, he was portrayed in the Richie Valens biopic La Bamba by Howard Huntsberry.

Jackie Wilson is interred around the Westlawn Cemetery in Wayne, Michigan.
